There was lack of communication and we closed 6 weeks late. After buying 3 previous house, this was by far the worst. On a good note, they were able to qualify us for the VA loan we wanted which helped financially but we had to stay in a hotel for so long we still spent the money it would've taken to close FHA.

the loan officer could have been in touch with us every step of the way. Heard from him 2x since we applied. He let the loan admin person do everything, didn't return 2 call I made. Explained nothing. Would not use 1st Amer. again.

He gave me a really good loan but he was not patient and he did not communicate with me on time lines. I’m a first time home buyer I needed him to explain things to me and he made me feel like I was wasting his time. He also would call my realtor and complain how me being slow or not getting things in time but he wouldn’t tell me what he needed and when he needed them. He was not professional in my opinion. He also got an attitude with me.

Lenny was pleasant on the phone talking to him and the things he said seemed, for the most part, true. The problems I had in this whole experience were: 1. He was often unavailable and slovenly to return phone calls. 2. His referral to a terrible, poorly organized and errant underwriter was made even worse by his reassurance that she is doing a "good" job. 3. Finally, the fact is: the "We only charge $1500 for everything..." line is only true because they change the definition of "charge".

Most of the bad experience came from not being told ahead of time about the extra fers we had to pay until last minute and being rushed to get the funds with less than a day. Being rushed on paperwork. The day we get it we have a day or less to get it all in and signed. Would have been nice to have more advanced notice on everything. Wr ended up having to take out loans to get the money paid because we are being asked wherwhere the money is.
