Constant confusion, why do we even have a portal if people can’t access or find the information uploaded, pulling teeth to get some straight answers and information of different refinancing options and how that effects monthly repayments, I had to call corporate and get a call back from Brook Bergh to get explanations on things. He was seriously one of the few people who seemed willing and able to answer questions. Final straw was being told we didn’t need to be physically present for our “closing” and finding out 10min before we were supposed to start that this was not correct. More infuriating, the only reason we found out was because I had called the main Duluth office (multiple times) to discuss how the check was being transferred, it took me +3 calls between Bobbi, Paula, whoever was at the front desk to get things figured out?? I had two sick kids both under 4 years old.. Absolutely ridiculous.. We unfortunately will not recommend New American to anyone..

Communications is long way

Better communication. We tried reaching out to Devin on many occasions without response. It wasn’t until we got other people involved that we would get an answer from her. And as a first time home buyer, we had many questions - so it would have been nice to have those answers.

My entire experience with NAF was very disappointing and extremely frustrating. The initial loan officer who was assigned to me (prior to John) made several promises that were not upheld. The second loan officer I was assigned (John Wash) was friendly, but regularly seemed completely discombobulated. Leading up to the week of my closing, I was given several completely inaccurate quotes regarding various numbers, including my cash to close amount. Was told that my cash to close would be around $9k-$10k and less than a week later is was ten thousand dolllars higher, with the loan officer struggling to explain such a huge differential. NAF reneged on my initial officer’s promise of me receiving $10k towards closing if I used the NAF realtor referral program. That officer later changed the amount to $2k when he put it in writing. Then I was informed by Mr. Wash that the amount would only be $1k because the amount of my loan had to exceed $300k, not the sale price of the home. I had to dig through emails received from the first officer to provide evidence of what I’d been told, and even then NAF didn’t come up to the full $2k amount. 3 days before my closing, I also learned (through my realtor, not my loan officer), that my loan amount had been increased by $3k in order to help offset the $10k cash to close misquote I’d received. I was never told that this was occurring, only that it was a potential option….one I never agreed too. The way the numbers were moved around to accommodate this was also never explained to me by the lender, though NAF told the realtor they had already spoken with me about it. In closing (of this review, not the nightmare of finalizing my home purchase), this was the absolute worst home buying experience I’ve ever been a part of….or even heard about. No one could provide answers, and the realtor constantly referred me back to the lender, who constantly blamed and referred me back to the realtor. I am exhausted. This is the third home I’ve purchased, but the first through NAF. It will ultimately be the final time I utilize NAF, as the individuals I had to work with, as well as the entire experience was a complete disaster. I believe the kids today refer to it as a dumpster fire.
