We were told this process would take 30-45 days. It should have been a fairly easy case: we have great credit, lived in the same house for 13 years, same jobs for many years, no additional accounts or properties or anything. It was almost 90 days to finish. There was NO communication unless I initiated contact. Even then it was hard to get a straight answer. Took way too long- told for 4 weeks that “it should close in a few days.”

We ended up getting a great result. We closed on time, got an excellent interest rate, and probably the lowest closing costs around. The mortgage team was accessible and responded promptly to all questions and situations. The down side: I have never met my mortgage officer. I feel that he did not take the time to get to know me or my situation and needs. He did not guide me on how to get the best mortgage program. I had to do my own research through other mortgage companies and come back to him

Josh was great, He helped with my first loan. But the experience of refinancing the loan this time and closing was very erratic. I almost missed the closing because his team didn’t alert me about a phone call I had to make before the closing. I didn’t feel there was good communication between different team members.

He seemed like he was constantly playing catch up on trying to call back when I had questions, and emails were consistently at end of the day where I would have to wait until the next day to get an answer. Another issue that probably makes it tough, which is not knowing all the state requirements. I went into this thinking i did not have to pay for a terminate inspection - I was later told he misinformed me. The VA requires MI a terminate inspection that I had to pay for.

Less phone calls, and when you do call make sure you rely all information and pricing of services. Make sure the buyer knows all the documentation that you will need, rather than having the buyer hunt down further information last minute. Let the buyer know if you anticipate this might happen. Ask the buyer when appropriate times are for phone calls. Don't treat the buyer like their time is less valuable than yours. Don't push the buyer off on other colleagues without informing them first.
