New American waiting until too late in the process to get an appraisal. After quoting $450, the price jumped to over $2,000 because they couldn't find an appraiser in the area. I found one for them. The price then came down to $800 (still too high). Close of escrow was held up 12 days as a result. There were requests for docs that I had already given them. The escrow company and property owner received timelier and better info from NAF than I did. Frustrating experience.

When it came time to close and we weren’t able to close on time, the communication from Hector was almost non-existent. Up until that time, Hector was great. I understand that delays happen but when they do, there should still be communication. I would rather know why we’re delayed than sit in the dark wondering.

The whole experience with New American has felt shady. It wasn't until I was able to connect with an actual call center to ask the status of our refinance funding that I finally felt comfortable that it wasn't a scam. We thought that this whole thing could be done online, but then it was almost entirely phone calls and asks for W-2s, tax returns, etc. over unsecured emails. Additionally, there was always something URGENT, but it still took nearly 3 months to close.

I believe better communication/follow up and overall care for the customer is necessary. I was included on an email thread where individuals were not taking responsibility for the lack on their behalf. My realtor stepped in a few time to assist with missing documentation to close on time however was met with late responses or sometimes no response at all.

More communication. I had to get mad to get any results. I am a client. Not a new unknown. Every aspect was trying and difficult. Right down to signing.
