Dave's part was fine, but once my buyer's loan hit underwriting it was way off. The Title Company didn't get clear to close until 1 hour before closing from the underwriter.

We were told that we were going from an FHA loan to a Conventional Loan - which made us think we were just going from one mortgage loan to another mortgage. Never once did anyone use the phrase "home equity loan" to us. We debated how much the property taxes were at some length, back and forth, with nobody ever telling us that "WE" would be the ones paying it from now on. It was only while spending 1.5 hours signing the closing papers that we found out we were switching to a home equity loan.

Initially the delay was on my part in getting the original documents to you, but after that, it seemed to be a lack of cohesive communication among your team. One person would say you had all the necessary information, we were good to go to the next stage, then I’d get a request a few hours later for something else. I also requested to be the primary contact because I had more flexibility in calling you back, but that seemed unheard. This unfortunately took 8 LONG weeks. Glad it’s wrapped up.

New American does not communicate well. If you want answers or guidance during your process, you won’t get it here. They’re all very kind when you speak, which is a plus, but they’re shockingly unreachable.

The level of communication throughout each stage of the process wasn’t what I’m used to or what I was expecting. Brennan was really helpful initially, but once we were in the loan process, there were multiple occasions when I had to reach out to more than one person to find out what was going on, what I needed to do, whether we were on track, etc. When dollar amounts changed, there was no phone call to explain why, and I was charged a loan origination fee when I was told it would be waived.

It seemed the process took to long. At the time of the closing we found out about a problem that New American Funding knew about but did not tell us about until 2 days before closing. It was stated that this was not our problem, but it sure turned out to be after it cost us over $400. I wish they would have informed us when they knew about it, maybe it could have been solved sooner and not cost us the extra money.
