My experience with New American Funding was extremely disappointing. I have serious concerns about professionalism, communication, accountability, and fair treatment throughout our mortgage process.
While I appreciate the assistance of our loan consultant, Jeff Donohue, my primary concerns involve Angela and her handling of our underwriting requirements.
We repeatedly submitted requested documentation and cooperated with additional conditions. Nevertheless, previously submitted documents were requested again, and new requirements continued appearing at the last minute. These included my husband’s driver’s license, explanations regarding the source of funds, and a gift letter I had specifically asked about earlier.
MOST CONCERNING, WE HAD TO ATTEND CLOSING TWICE.
We arrived for our first scheduled closing prepared to finalize our purchase, only to encounter unresolved paperwork and signature issues. After rearranging our schedules and returning for a second appointment, additional complications continued. These matters should have been resolved before we were instructed to attend closing.
I also want to address an unprofessional interaction with Angela. She called me from a number I did not know was her personal cell phone. When I noticed her missed call, I simply returned it. During our conversation, she told me not to “abuse” calling her personal cell number.
I found this remark presumptuous, condescending, and offensive. I had never initiated contact through that number or repeatedly called her. I was simply returning HER missed call. I am a professional adult who respects communication boundaries and would never intentionally misuse someone’s personal number or contact them outside appropriate hours.
If Angela preferred communication through official channels, she could have explained that respectfully. Following her remark, I stopped using that number and communicated only through official email or office telephone channels.
Her communication, repeated scrutiny of our finances, inconsistent documentation requests, and closing complications left me feeling singled out, disrespected, unfairly scrutinized, and potentially discriminated against.
I do not raise concerns about discrimination lightly. I understand that mortgage underwriting requires financial verification and compliance with regulations. However, I question why previously submitted documents were repeatedly requested, why conditions continued surfacing at the last minute, and whether we received fair and consistent treatment.
I request that New American Funding’s leadership and fair-lending compliance department independently review Angela’s communications, documentation requests, underwriting conditions, and the circumstances surrounding both closing appointments.
I specifically request an investigation into my concerns regarding potential unequal or discriminatory treatment and a written response explaining the findings.
I also want to distinguish Jeff Donohue from the issues involving Angela and underwriting. It would be unfair to hold him solely responsible for these problems.
Purchasing our home should have been a joyful milestone. Instead, preventable delays and disrespectful communication created unnecessary stress and frustration.
Customers deserve professionalism, transparency, consistency, and respect. Successfully funding a mortgage does not excuse how customers are treated throughout the process.
I expect accountability, a meaningful review, and a written response.
The loan may be closed, but that does not mean the concerns surrounding how we were treated should be closed with it.
