Put a Spring in the Step of Your Exterior

Your home's curb appeal is often the first impression people digest. Whether you want to keep up with the Jones', sell your home or just enhance its exterior appearance, there are a number of ways you can kick your curb appeal up a notch. Follow these tips to help dress up your home:

Focus on Vegetation

For many of us, it has been a long winter. However, spring is finally here and warmer weather is on its way. Zillow recommended that you give your yard and landscaping a facelift after the past few wintry months. Give your lawn some tender love and care and lay grass seed in any thinning areas of your yard.

In addition, you will want to evaluate your current landscaping. You may want to plant new flowers or shrubs to enhance the appearance of your front yard. Also, add extra mulch. Darker mulches can make your current plants and blossoms pop a little more.

Ensure that you keep up with weeding your garden and any landscaping. The winter may have killed off some of those nuisances, but it's your job to finish carrying the torch. Develop a habit of regularly heading out to the yard and keeping things tidy.

Front Door Dress-Up Day

You may want to apply a new coat of paint to your exterior or add a pop of color to your front door. Better Homes and Gardens recommended having a little fun with something different and make the entrance to your home stand out.

Also add a few seating options if you have a front porch or deck. Place a few potted plants or flowers in front of your door to help make your home inviting and friendly for everyone who passes by or comes over as a guest.

If the flooring of your deck or patio has seen better days, replace any worn patches. Also consider sealing, staining or painting your deck to protect the wood and keep it looking fresh and new.

Replace the Old and Worn with New

Worn light fixtures, doors, windows or even your roof should be replaced and at the top of your to-do list. Replacing a roof is especially important because an insufficient roof may lead to water damage in your home which can cause more substantial expenses.

Clean Your Driveway and Sidewalk

If the cement around your home is dirty, use a power washer to eliminate grime, according to Realtor Magazine. Consider replacing your driveway or the walkway to your home if there are too many cracks or oil stains. You can also opt to just patch up certain problem areas to save a little bit of money.

Invest in Lighting

Lighting can help show off all of your hard work when the sun sets. Also think about lining your sidewalk with solar lanterns for safety as well as a complimentary warm glow.

Check out your local hardware store for deals and different options available. You can easily enhance the curb appeal of your home at any time by adding a bit more lighting to the area.

Deep Clean Your Windows

Your windows suffer quite a bit during the course of winter. Get them shining like new by washing them inside as well as outside. If you are selling your home, consider removing the screens during the open house to show off their shine.

Consider adding unique shutters or window flower boxes to add a little more appeal to your exterior.

Spend a few days basking in the sun and tackling a couple outdoor projects this spring to improve your overall curb appeal.
