In this blog, I wanted to take the time to shine some light on attic and basement spaces. Sure, they can be very useful for storage, but what fun is that?! Let’s take a look at a few ways you can turn your space into your get-away oasis!
For those of you who follow my blogs, you know I recently purchased a home. In my home we have an attic space that is currently a blank canvas; I have no idea what I am going to do with the space. I realize the first thing that needs to be done is to choose a style and theme to convey. The possibilities are literally limitless, and after doing some research I have come across so many different ideas I wanted to compile a few amazing photos and hopefully inspire to get you started in a direction. I have been seeing everything from attic bedrooms, movie rooms, game rooms, gyms, secret libraries, offices, closets, even rock climbing wall attics.
Below are some really good examples of unique attic spaces I fell in love with and hopefully they inspire you too. Pinterest is such a great ally to start to build ideas from!
Just like attics, basement spaces can easily be turned from drab to fab with just a little elbow grease, patience, and a vision! What I love about basements is the amount of usable real estate they offer. Attics create a “secret room” or private hideaways feel, whereas basements are more like an extension of the home. I love seeing basements with an open and welcoming feel. Like attics, what you do with the space is only limited by your imagination. Popular choices include man caves (for a “how to” on building your man cave, click here), media rooms, and gyms.
Of course, Pinterest also has an abundance of ideas for basements; I want to highlight a few unique uses for basement spaces that caught my eye. Are any of them your style?
Once you’ve chosen a theme for your space, the fun of construction and building will begin! This will also bring up the important question of DIY or hiring someone to construct your space for you. Like with many other monetary life decisions, the most important thing to do is take your time and do your research. Happy building!
