The term Corporate America does not make one feel soft and fuzzy but rather conjures up the image of a bustling Wall Street. We often see huge headlines about unethical companies not upholding their corporate responsibility. While it’s rare to hear about a company demonstrating a spirit of philanthropy, they do exist and are out there doing what they can to give back every day.
The select group of businesses that do give back donate to nonprofit organizations that help the homeless and sick, support museums and youth programs, provide funding for cancer research and disaster relief efforts. According to the Giving USA Foundation, corporate giving increased 5.5% in 2009 to $14.1 billion, but accounted for only 4% of all charitable giving in 2009. The 2010 Haiti earthquake encouraged big names to flex their philanthropic muscles; companies such as Google, and UPS donated $1 million each to disaster relief efforts.
It feels good to belong to a company that believes in donating to nonprofit organizations, that demonstrates this spirit of philanthropy. Just this past April and May the New American Funding team participated in HomeAid OC’s 4th Annual Essentials for Young Lives donation drive for the second year in a row. We all worked together to fill eight huge boxes with baby products including baby wipes, baby food, etc. to be distributed to less fortunate mothers in the Orange County community.
New American Funding may not be as big as the other guys, but then again we don’ t have to be to show that we care.
